Post Laminectomy Syndrome

Post Laminectomy Syndrome

This is chronic back pain resulting from back surgery. It is also called Failed Back Syndrome. It tends to start a few months after back surgery and is thought to be associated with the build up of scar tissue in the spine, residual disc herniations, or spinal instability. The patient has chronic dull back and lower extremity pain that may be associated with intermittent stabbing, stinging pain. Patients with Post Laminectomy Syndrome commonly take long term narcotic medications resulting in drug dependence, depression, low testerone, and other problems.
