This is a fracture of the body of the spinal bone. It may be a result of trauma or in the care of osteoporosis or metastatic disease trauma may be absent or trivial. The pain is acute and severe and can be debilitating. In most cases simply reducing the fracture with a balloon and injection of bone cement into the bone (kyphoplasty) results in a significant reduction in pain.
